Meet Our Team

The Cabbagetown Pet Clinic has been a fixture in the historic east Toronto Cabbagetown neighbourhood for 35 years. In August of 2008, Dr. Jennifer Day purchased the practice from Dr. Scott McClure and has steadily built the practice into what it is today – a modern, efficient and compassionate pet hospital, serving pet lovers in one of Toronto’s most unique neighbourhoods.

Dr. Jennifer Day

Veterinary Owner

Dr. Brittany Lostracco, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Lostracco spent her formative years growing up in Aurora, Ontario and is a recent graduate – with distinction – from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) at the University of Guelph.

Prior to her enrollment in OVC, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Queen’s University and a Master’s degree in Animal Welfare and Behaviour from the University of Guelph.

While pursuing her Masters degree, Dr. Lostracco worked as a Research Associate at the University of Guelph on projects that focused on analyzing and reducing stress and anxiety in animals at vet clinics. She also held a position with the Turkey Farmers of Canada as the Associate Manager of Science and Regulation with emphasis on animal welfare policy and legislation.

Dr. Lostracco is a Fear-Free certified veterinarian and is committed to reducing the stress and anxiety of pets (and their owners) during clinic visits. She is dedicated to improving the lives of pets through preventative medicine, and has a keen interest in animal behaviour, internal medicine and dentistry.

She has a family dog named Sadie – an Australian Shepherd and Border Collie cross – and in her words, “is my sun and stars”. Although Dr. Lostracco is active in several sporting pastimes, she has a particular love of beach volleyball and is excited to have joined a local league this summer.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Brittany Lostracco to the Cabbagetown Pet Clinic team, bringing with her a deep well of knowledge, attentiveness, kindness and expertise – especially in the area of stress and anxiety reduction for animals in a clinic environment.

Fun Fact:

Dr. Lostracco was part of a veterinary student volunteer program called “Global Vets” where she traveled for 7 weeks to Belize, Ecuador and Panama volunteering at animal shelters and spay/neuter clinics. “It was a great experience!” We couldn’t agree more…

Dr. Jackie Elmhirst, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Elmhirst graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) in 2009 and has been practicing veterinary medicine in Toronto area ever since. Her professional interests focus on internal medicine and preventative care.

She lives in the Beaches area in east Toronto with her husband, two young children, and their fur baby – Henna, the golden retriever.

In her free time, you may find her strolling the Beach boardwalk, travelling, reading or catching up on the newest Netflix series.

We are delighted to have Dr. Elmhirst as part of the Cabbagetown Pet Clinic team.
